Dragged back to work, kicking and screaming
Yesterday was the first day back to work for many people. The holidays provide ample time to rest, recuperate and catch up with family and friends. But after those two heavenly weeks of down time, reality comes marching back and we have to return to work. It's never fun to go back to work after a lengthy time off, but it's especially hard if you really hate your job. Sunday afternoon headaches and Monday morning crying jags become the norm for many professionals. Why do we put ourselves through that torture? Because we feel trapped. Because we're wearing the golden handcuffs. Because we're the sole breadwinner in our family and we don't have the luxury of just leaving a job.
It doesn't have to be this way. We can make changes. Even if you're reading this and shaking your head "no," know that you can make a change. Maybe you can't up and leave your job this week; that's understandable. But with small steps in the form of action items, you can make a daunting task much more manageable. What if you created an action plan to leave your job in a year's time? How much easier would it be to go into work each day? When a positive change is looming on the horizon, dealing with the small, everyday shit isn't so bad.
What two small steps could you take this week to move you closer to your dream job?
